Campus Lost & Found
Idea
Concept
A university-specific platform for reporting, finding, and returning lost items within campus.
Students could quickly post details about something they have lost or found, while others could search through recent reports and help reconnect items with their owners.
The Problem
Lost items on campus are often difficult to report and recover.
Students usually depend on friends, class groups, Messenger chats, or social media posts. These channels are scattered, posts can quickly disappear, and there is no central place to search for previously reported items.
This can make simple lost-and-found situations unnecessarily difficult.
Possible Solution
Create a centralized campus lost-and-found hub where students can:
- Report a lost item
- Report an item they have found
- Search and filter existing reports
- Add photos and identifying details
- Specify where and when the item was lost or found
- Contact the person who posted the report
- Verify their university identity before making a claim
The platform could use verified university accounts to create a more trusted environment.
How It Could Work
Lost something?
Create a report → Add item details → Select location → Add photo → Publish
Found something?
Create a found-item report → Add details → Select where it was found → Publish
If a possible match is found, the two users can communicate and verify ownership before arranging a return.
Possible Features
- University account verification
- Lost / Found categories
- Search and filters
- Item photos
- Campus location
- Date and time
- Possible match suggestions
- Claim request
- User reporting
- Resolved / Unresolved status
- Notifications
- Admin moderation
Future Possibilities
The platform could eventually become a broader campus community utility, with support for multiple universities and separate campus communities.
Possible future additions could include:
- QR codes for valuable items
- Smart matching between lost and found reports
- Campus map integration
- Notifications for nearby matches
- Anonymous reporting
- University administration dashboard
